I thought I would chime in on sticks. I have been playing now over 32 years and have played sticks made by every company out there. With that said I use a little known brand called NOVA These are sold in "bricks" of 12 pair at musicians friend. I have found them to be very straight and durable. (keep in mind that wood sticks are a natural product and no company makes a perfect stick every time) These sticks are as balanced as the "name brands" and the best part is if you buy a "brick" the cost winds up at just over $2.00 a pair. Compare that to paying $8.00 a pair for the "name brand" and it's not very hard to figure out. This of course does not apply to the Ahead sticks, wich I tried and didnt care for. I am in no way bashing ahead stick I just prefer wood. I recently bought a "brick" of ON STAGE brand sticks from ebay and advise everybody to AVOID them like the plague. Although they are straight and balanced, they wear out very fast. For those people that are tired of paying top dollar for sticks look into the nova brand. You can find them at musicians friend.

I've never tried them, 5A's wouldn't be too far a stretch from what I currently like to play though. Nova brand are produced by Vic Firth. They are apparently minor blemish (factory seconds???) sticks and so doesn't suprise me you are getting a quality product. Just for a little bit of trivia, since we seem to have some who enjoy (are forced into...?) cooking, Vic Firth also makes a line of kitchen products. Yes, these would be lathe spun wood, things like salt/pepper shakers and rolling pins. Apparently Vic is quite the chef. As well, has a good friend who is a household name these days, Emeril (who during station breaks on his show mans either THE or a second stage drum kit with the house band and is quite the DRUMMER as well). Food and musicians.....well, we gotta eat I suppose and after the belly is full...what ya gonna do? Jam session!
