I know some people who swear by flat wound and some who swear by round wound.
What is your opinion?

They say there are advantages to both, the round wound are easier to play but the flat wound send out more vibrations so the pickups pick it up more clearly and allow for better sustain.
i don't know if this is true but it is just what i have heard.

round wound for me too, flats don't cut it on geetar. I have played both on a bass, and really couldn't tell much difference sustain wise. I think it's mostly personal preference, but then I ay have started a war too. I using GHS Bass Boomers right now in ultra light on my basses, they sound fine to me. I know I might lose a little fat tone, but I like the playablility, plus I can turn up the bass on the amp to compensate. I'm using first act strings on my guitars, and really I can't tell any difference except 3 bucks a set. I'm not big on brand names,a lot of times that's what you pay for. THis is not always true, but a lot of times it is.

Another thing for TB, she had some flatwounds, and they really tore her fingers up, and that doesn't happen with the roundwounds...You would think flatwounds would be easier on your fingers...go figure....

I tried a set of the first act strings and i broke 3 strings just tuning the stupid thing. besides i can order 3 sets of Ernie Ball strings from musicians friend for $12. it's worth it to me to get something a little better quality.

Yeah I have been using GHS Boomers. I can get them between $3-$4 a set. And they are more expensive but someday I may try a set of Elixir's.... ;D

I've used Lakland stainless flats on my jazz bass for the last 4 years, love them. Here's the thing, they don't sound that great when you're playing alone, but when you get in a full band situation they cut through the mix like a tone axe!
(first post BTW ;D)
