Alright, I guess it was time to start a slightly humorous thread and we can share some war stories. In may many years of playing country, rock, jazz, blues, Christian and even a polka band, I have been very blessed to play some awesome venues in front of thousands of people. We all like to brag about those "glory days". But then we have a tendency to leave out the "interesting" stories about the not-so-awesome venuse. When I was in my mid 20's, I played with anyone who needed a drummer. Really helped to round out the chops. But this one band that was fronted by two sisters, was called "Jackie, Jill and the Tumblers". The name says it all. We were booked locally at a grand opening of a new supermarket. We were to play on this big flat bed trailer on the parking lot, complete with press coverage, etc. Well, wonderful Wisconsin spring weather gave us a freakish spring snow storm. We were ready to cancel the gig. But since we were there, the store manager said, "you'll play inside". Hmm. So he cleared us a space in the produce area and we set up the band right next to the peas and carrots. I will never forget playing and seeing moms walk by pushing shopping carts with their kids giving us the strangest looks. That was my strangest. What was yours?

We took a gig at the Verona Mo senior Prom.1986. We asked them what the theme was and about the dress code and all, they said whatever you usually wear will be fine.I guess they had never hired a rock band before. So we show up full tilt, looking like Bon Jovi , and pulling a trailer that says "Hooker" on the side of it..lol It was a hoot of a name for a band, but I guess the High School circut wasn't ready for that. Anyway we got all setup did soundcheck, and waited till the kids showed up. We were used to the bar crowd, they would talk to you,try to steal your bandana's and the kids were totally freaked out. They all plastered themselves against the wall, and said nothing. I felt like I had the plauge..lol Even the administration that hired us were scarcely seen. It was a major culture shock I think, but it sure was weird all those kids just looking at us and pointing like we were some kind of freaks. That has to be the strangest gig for me.

No Joke I played a club in Portland Ore. that used live bands for the strippers to dance to. And in Portland they danced full nude. MAN was it a bit rough to keep time Yes they danced on stage with the bands! They paid a bit less than the other clubs but we really didnt mind LOL

Funkmaster, I played a club like that up in Wisconsin. Could never figure out why I ended up with less money in the wallet than I started with.

we really haven't played enouh live to have that interesting of stories, atleast not as interesting as the nudy bar one, hehe.
we did play the outland ballroom a couple of times and... wow, a bit rustic. we also got badmouthed by one of the bands there, so that was exciting. haha
we do have a cool show coming up when we will be playing on a pirate ship, so that will be pretty cool, but this is about stories of the past not the future.

Might have just played the topper. We took a gig for the anti drug rally and they were having several bands,a variety of music, cool we're in for a good cause. When we get there the lady in charge has had a tragedy and is gone, and they turned it over to the local church. So the whole thing was christian rock, and like a big church service, which I have no problem with, don;t get me wrong. But not what we signed on for here. So we got on to play at 3,and they announced at 3:45 we had 2 more songs and they were closing down, see you next year..lmao
I felt so outta place, and the sound guy didn't really bother to do sound for us,just kinda was like oh well.
Chalk it up for an experiance.
