Hey drummers, what are you using for a drum vocal mic stand? I used a headset mic for a year or so, but we coul never get a good mix without spending the big bucks for top end vocal headset mic. I am using the singers standard Shure SM58. I have tried having a stand off to my left with a straight boom attachment over the hi hat. Kept getting in the way. I went back to a set up I had years ago with the boom coming over my head from directly behind me with a gooseneck placing the SM58 directly in front of me. I like this set up the best, but the boom attachment does not seem to tighten well enough to keep the mc in place. It keeps slipping down. I am using the "musicians friend" boom attachment. Does anyone know of a better boom attachment that tightens and does not move? The vertical mic stand I have is n Atlas with 12" base and 14lb weight, but my boom attachment sucks.

I don't know...I use a boom stand with a SM58 also. I only sing two songs and back up on a few others and that's it. I wish I had the money for a headset though! Fullmoon's drummer use's a headset and it works really well for her. Pearl's drummer uses a boom like I do and he get's by with it. I think a headset is the best way to go at this point!
Wish I could find the money tree,
Samuel

I've been using a wired AKG c410 for about 15 years now..or more. I've had to rewire it about 8 times because of various reasons.
I used to use a tripod boom stand with a short boom attached to it. I'd put it right behind me, with one foot/leg under my throne, then run it over my head with a 58 on it. That way, if I needed, I could swivel it out of the way and work my arms around the mic without smacking it...usually. LOL!!
I never saw any sense in using a wireless headset when behind the drums. Where am I going?! LOL!
Shure made a decent wired headset but I didn't think it had the same audio quality of the AKG.

Although I am not a drummer, as I am sitting all the time I use an Onstage mic stand with a boom, really made for mic'ing guitar cabs or bass drums, but it works out perfect for me, and of course it has a Shure SM58 sitting on top... ;D

I tried a Shure SM10(?) wired headset mic as well as an Audio Technical wired headset mic. Both sounded a bit tinny and required more boost at the board. Years ago I had a Shure SM56 which was the same guts as a 57, but had the cord plug in at a 90 degree angle. You did not have that tail stock sticking out in the way of drumsticks. I have since added additional weight to th end of the boom, and it helps a bit, but somewhere there must be a top notch boom stand that does not get "droop-itis" when an SM58 is attached.
