Ok I have a question about connecting effects to the mixer.I'm using a unity 12 channel peavey mixer,and a microverb3 and a microverb4.
The mixer has seperate inputs for effects 1 and 2,but it only has 1 out.I'm talking pairs here,1 and 2 pairs. So how am I to connect to the second effects bus if there is only one output?
I thought I knew quite a bit abut this stuff but I've never seen this one before..lol. I'm assuming I can daisy chain it all together and run it on one send, but I think it would sound cleaner on separate busses.
I looked in the manual, but it was very vague on the matter.
thanks

Yeah my Peavey Deuce has those effects sends, as does my Crate PA head, but I never messed with them, not even sure how they work, I just plug my effects into the regular input, just like I do on my Fender Deluxe, which doesnt have effects sends...so I guess I am not much help...LOL

the effects sends give you a much cleaner patch into the amp. They insert the effects in the path before the power amp,and then you don't get as much noise, and such. It's a nice way to hook up your pedals. But on a PA it distributes the effects across the whole mix,and give you individual control of the effects on each channel. You might give it a try, just remember that an in always goes to an out,and and out always goes to an in.

Live sound is run in mono, not stereo. So your effects should be run in mono as well as each channel (effects 1 & 2 sends) are sending mono signals, not stereo. So, to answer your question. Send your outs from your board to the left inputs of each device and then the return back into the left input. Hope this helped. Jamie Anawaty www.myspace.com/guitarkeyscom

I was always under the impression that since the mixer, effects, and amps were all capable of stereo then you run it in stereo. Is it not true that panning left and right live will clean up the mix?

Rusty,
I will answer this a little later because the answer is really long, but that is exactly why you wouldn't want to run stereo. Cleaning up the mix is about frequencies. Panning left and right changes what your audience will hear left and right (most people are not center stage) so someone on the right hears rhythm guitar all night while the person on the left hears nothing but solos if you pan.
If interested, I am willing to give a presenation at one of your meetings (free) - ok, maybe I would like a BK Whopper on the house, but if there were enough people interested I would be willing to host something like that...

Well that sounds like a great idea. I would even be willing to post such an article on the homepage in the tech section,I'm always looking for contributors for that. A submission will make your name turn blue and you get a Site Supporter label on your name, plus I'll give you credit for the article on the page if you're interested

I have been interested in putting together a course on live sound for some time, but like anything else, this stuff takes time. There is definately a huge need for it as there are lots & lots of misconceptions about sound. Truth is it really doesn't matter what you play if in the end it doesn't sound good.
When I present I give documentation and scientific facts/reasons for why I do what I do so it's not opinion, it just makes sense.
Let's just see the level of interest and go from there.

Yeah sounds like it could be interesting...For the most part if I plug something in and there is sound I am happy, but I do know there is a lot more to it than that...
