We were talking about this in the shoutbox today. HOw do you learn the majority of your songs? Back in the stone ages we had to either read music,or learn by ear,or have someone show us,now there is youtube, tabs, many other methods of learning new material, how many do you use?
I use all the above, but I like jamming with the cd best

Robo- are you using a teacher for learning parts to songs or for skills development, etc.? Good for you BTW- I wish I had the extra cash flow for an instructor, I've wanted to do that for a few years now...

I usually don't actually "learn" songs. I just have whoever I'm playing with to start playing and I'll come in with something.

When I was 10 years old, I would listen to my brother play drums. He learned by listening to the song with headphones. That is when I started playing drums and learned the same way ever since. My brother only played for a couple of years, I have been playing for 35 years now. The only difference from then to now is now I usually print off a lyric sheet and makes notes on it (struture, repeats intro / outro) and refer to that during rehersals (sometimes at a gig as well). I wish I would have taken some lessons and learned charts. I have been in studio situations where that would have made things a bit simpler. But at this point in my life, there is no teaching this old dog any new tricks. ;D

I like to add a little of my own style in the leads,so I usually only try to get the feel of the original artist, and the main text of the break and then toss my own licks and whatever in there unless it's a break that has to be record.
Good to see ya sancho
