For those of you who have heard all of the fuss and what-to-do about some of the more recent amp and cabinet modeling software out there but are still 'leary' to say the least, take a moment and read the testimony of one formerly fellow doubter.
I have recently acquired a copy of the Guitar Rig 3 modeling software. I smirked and jeered at the thought of using such a thing having been very skeptical in the past due to the fact that 'nothing' could sound as good as a REAL amp. As I loaded the software onto my laptop, I assumed that this would be a fun little toy to play with for an afternoon and then would probably never touch it again and eventually delete it off of my system.
To make a long story short, I was COMPLETELY blown away!! The presets that came with the program were, without a doubt, the most authentic replication of the expected tones that I had ever heard. Along with the quality of tone, it was insanely easy to build and modify my own sounds. That in and of itself is saying quite a bit since I'm not exactly a 'gear guru'. You know what I'm saying, 'you know what you want, you just don't know how to get it'. Not so with GR3.
Along with building new sounds and the existing presets, if you can name an artist, then you WILL be able to find some down loadable tones that others have created. I have some Pink Floyd (David Gilmore) tones that I got yesterday that are mindblowingly accurate.
I know it's a long post, but GR3 is now my live rig! I have an all valve Marshall head, 2 1960 cabinets, numerous pedals and I really don't intend on using them live ever again, unless I absolutely need to. Moral of the story? BUY GUITAR RIG 3!!
