This is some funny crapola for real...
MARIONVILLE, Mo. -- A bold burglar hit the Murfin's Market on Friday. He did a lot of damage but didn't get away with any cash.
The unusual series of events began early Friday morning.
“I got a phone call about 6:20 from the manager,” said owner Chuck Murfin.
Employees say it looked like the front of the grocery store exploded. It turns out a tree-trimming truck rammed through the wall about 5:30. Police say it was stolen from Wright Tree Trimming Service.
“It backed up to the store here, rammed the bucket through the front glass and wall here,” said Marionville Police Chief Mark Webb.
The store's surveillance video vaguely shows the burglary behind the safe that sat right by the front entrance.
“One suspect, probably male, jumped out, threw a rope around the safe, pulled it back through the wall,” said Webb.
The person who called police was able to snap a picture of the safe tied to the truck's bucket in the parking lot. The man drove the truck behind the store, apparently trying to open up the safe.
That's when Aurora police showed up, at the request of Lawrence County sheriff’s deputies. The burglar revved up the stolen truck and hit the police cars. The officers were not hurt, although one was shaken up when the bucket of the truck slammed into the windshield and roof of his car, badly damaging the vehicle.
The truck tore through a nearby apartment complex, tearing up a railing, some bushes and a couple of the buildings, before the truck died. That’s where police confronted him.
The man ditched the tree-trimming truck at the edge of Southview Apartments, and then took off on foot, past the Modern Day Vets bar and then out southeast of town, where cops were unable to catch up with him.
“They tracked him for a ways through the snow, but finally lost the tracks and the suspect's at large still,” Webb said on Friday afternoon.
Marionville Police and Aurora Police are investigating the chain of events, and ask anyone to call if they have information.
