What sticks do you guys like to use? I keep several styles and sizes. My everyday drum stick I use the most is the Ahead Lars Ulrich and 5b Rock, I think they are awesome.
Before when I used exclusively Vic Firth Rock sticks I would go through at least a pair a week. Since I started with the Ahead sticks I have not even had to change the sleeves on either pair. Its been about three months now., they were a good investment. If I do have to change the sleeves they're only 3.00 a set.
I love the feel of the Ahead sticks with the Ahead grip tape which I have found can be reused if unwrapped and re-wrapped. They sound great and kill all of the vibration. After playing with the Ahead's I have not felt comfortable with my Vic Firth wood sticks.
I love the Ahead Sticks in summary.

Depends on the gig. Regular stick is Pro Mark 5B nylon tip. Just cannot play with wood tips. I usually play the left hand with the stick reversed in my hand (tip end facing me). I like the fat end of the stick sound on the snare drum. I have various sizes of Hot Rods for acoustic gigs. I may have to try the wrap. The 35+ years of playing has left me with a bit of arthitis in the hands / wrists.

I started using the wrap before I started with the sticks and I love it, The only kind worth buy is Ahead in My opinion.

I like the 5A or 5B wood tip sticks...I like The Percusion Shops name brand sticks they are cheap but last a while. I bought some cheap ones from Palens and the top of the stick broke and almost put my eye out.

I've always wanted a pair of Ahead's, but never have bought them. I use Vater 5B nylon tips and after reading the article on Vater and how they make sticks in last months DRUM! magazine, I'll never use any other stick, but Vater. ;D

Does anyone still "roll" sticks before buying them? I do sometimes if I'm picking up a cheap pair to practice with.
