Pitch, Roll, what are we flyin a plane here ;D. Seriously, I do all that and I look at the plies in the wood. To me thats most critical. Gotta have those plies running parallel to the stick as much as possible. In the past I have looked at sticks and have seen extremes in cases where the grain has run at about 30 degrees from horizontal when holding a stick horizontally. If any of you find yourselves busting sticks on a regular basis make certain that you grip the stick such that when you strike downward, the grain pattern on the butt end of the stick is running the same direction you are striking.
