So I'm a big Thomas Lang fan because of his versatility, but after getting the new All That Remains album, I'm officially declaring Jason Costa as the best drummer in the world.

I like Mike Portnoy, but he plays everything the same. I've watched all of his dvd's and when he's explaining each song, it's the same. Jason Costa plays so many different beats and off times during songs that he's impossible to replicate. The guy is a genius!!!!!

Him and DJ AM are getting ready to do a show together. From Wikipedia:On December 1. 2008, TV Guide reported that Barker will make his first appearance with DJ-AM (Adam Goldstein) since the two survived the plane crash. The duo will perform at New Year's Nation's Los Angeles New Year's Eve Party at The Lot in West Hollywood. Their performance will also be streamed live on the Internet via New Year's Nation's official site, and will be broadcast at other New Year's Nation parties across the U.S. Of the gig, Barker told press, "I'm ready to get back onstage with AM and continue to rock the house. I'm very excited to bring in the New Year in my hometown of L.A."

And I always liked Peter Criss, the original KISS drummer, he wasnt flashy, or anything like that, he just kept a good solid beat, which when ya get down to it that is what it is all about anyway, not how many beats you could get packed into a measure...LOL

As long as I can keep the beat, I'm happy. But, Jason Costa can play along with the song and then at random he will play a completely different beat, accenting different beats with different limbs, and yet it still matches the song. Freakin amazing.

I'll have to stick with Peart,he's been my favorite drummer for years. Not that I'm a drummer, but I know what I like,Portnoy comes in there a close second, and the guy that drums for Queensryche.

Pert is amazing, John Bonham is great, Travis barker is good but what he does sounds cool but it is really just standard marching percussion stuff. any college level snare drummer can do exactly what he does if not better. Peter Chris is a solid drummer but i wouldn't really rank him as great. I do have to say that Thomas Lang is one of the best drummers alive.
If you want to talk about steady beat check out Dave Macintosh from Dragonforce. most consistent double bass i have ever heard, and he keeps it going throughout the whole song.
another great drummer is Jason Costa from All that remains, i believe he was mentioned earlier.
But one of the greatest drummers of all time considering sheer talent and musical ability is Don Henley.

I've never been a big Travis Barker fan and you are right. He uses a lot of marching rudiments and stuff. Dave Macintosh is very impressive, but Dragonforce as a whole band is freaking amazing.

Oh my god they are freaking crazy. some of those guitar riffs just blow my mind. it is hard to believe that you can get that many sounds out of one guitar. lol. For all of you reading this that have never heard of Dragonforce this is (in my opinion) their best song. www.youtube.com/watch?v=PvquWIULIFA
